The Road of Life

Life is but a journey, a travel down the road. It is an adventure that will take you wide and far, through many places; you will meet new people and reunite with old ones; various experiences will change you, form you, always challenge you in one way or another. Neither your starting point, nor the color of the feet carrying you is important, and neither is their size or the footwear; what matters is where those feet take you, the first step to the last. Peek back and remember the length you have already walked; gaze forward and keep what comes ahead in mind; but always stay focused on which foot you are currently standing on. Should your next step be the start of a dash or a casual stroll?

Often you are going to stray from the path you intended to take, but know that you can never leave your road. It will constantly fork into branches, branches you can choose from or be forced onto. Some branches might look like a dance on roses, but only for awhile; others might end blind or be too difficult for you to follow; in such cases, taking a step or two back and head onto a new branch would be the best option. But never give up too quickly, do not despair; everything is part of a huge puzzle, a maze beyond your imagination, and you might feel lost too; but wherever your feet take you, that is your road. The sky above will always be there to guide you, whether it is dark as night or bright as the sun.

The road ahead of you might seem rough, just like the path behind you has not been without rocks. Still, take a step forward, one at the time; there is no rush. Occasionally the scarred surface you walk on will turn softer, but there will always be stones hidden in the grass. So be careful and aware, but never too afraid to keep moving on. Sometimes the road will be hidden in the mist, overgrown by vegetation or disappear in the dark where no light lit it up; but the road will always be there, as long as you keep going. You might have to wait for the sun to shine again or someone to take your hand and lead you; other times you will have to blindly force yourself forward; step by step, the road will continue, it never ends.

Look beside you, and you will see many roads next to you; some of these will appear near you suddenly, only to take a turn and fade away in the distance; some will run parallel with yours, for a long time or only just for a moment; some will seem so close that your road and theirs become one; some will even cross yours, overlap it, perhaps over and over again; and others will forever stay as a mirage in the horizon. People might tell you about their road; you might even be witness to parts of others' journey; but you can never know about every single stone or turn of other roads; so do not easily judge others' journey, nor should you wish to swap paths; remember, your road is not the only one, but it is the only one for you.

At some parts of the road, you will feel energetic and walk steadily; maybe you will even run long distances. But you will also get tired during your journey, many times; however, you will never be at a complete standstill. Something will always push you and keep you moving, whether it is a gentle breeze or a tug pulling you. But nothing lasts forever; when the last strength of your feet subsides and you have taken your final step, you will kneel down and realize your destination. Only then will you know the truth the road has brought you; you will recognize the purpose of your journey. No matter how your road has been, no matter how many mountains or rivers you have crossed; you will look back and then whisper; "that was truly my adventure".
