'SSAEM, SARANGHAE' | CHAPTER ONE, VERSION TWO
On a seemingly ordinary cold March morning, although it certainly was anything but, Han Sun stood in front of the door to a high school classroom, with tiny yet still noticeable sweat drops glinting like wet pearls on his forehead, as he waited there in the hallway with an uneasiness no one who had been in similar situation would ever blame him for having. A hoarse but stern voice – Han Sun imagined a general, who had seen too many battles, giving orders to a newly recruited division of still undisciplined young men – thundered from inside the room:
”Attention, boys, be quiet! Your new teacher is here, so behave.” At this signal, Han Sun straightened his back and, suddenly very conscious about the wrinkles in his shirt, also tried to straighten these few mediocre folds out, without much success. Giving up, he breathed deeply in once, twice, before opening the door and entering.

”Alright, boys, get seated! Your new teacher is here, so please behave.” Han Sun tries to calm to his nerves, without much success, while Mr. Kim stands beside him and commands the students inside. Having just graduated, Han Sun has almost no work experience; this is his first class to teach. And to make things worse, not only is he young and looks even younger, the only job he has found is at an all-boys school. He shivers, remembering all too well how he and his friends had behaved back in high school.
Mr. Kim turns to him. “Just come to me if you got any problems. Good luck!” And with those words, Mr. Kim disappears out the door, and Han Sun’s new life as a teacher has begun.
Han Sun steps forward, trying not to stumble, and looks around. Most of the students look like the regular average type, however he does notice a group of three in the corner that looks more like punks; dyed hair, piercings and all the other signs of rebellion. It is also here the
UNCLE SAMUncle Sam is coming. Mommy and Daddy are smiling. Uncle Sam always gives Dan candy, and Dan always thanks Uncle Sam. But Dan does not eat the candy. Not the candy Uncle Sam gives Dan. Not anymore.
When Dan is lying in bed, and Mommy and Daddy stop laughing in the living room, and all light is turned off. That is when Dan hears footsteps in front of the door. Uncle Sam enters. But Uncle Sam is no longer Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam visits during the day. The Boogeyman comes at night. Dan is scared. "Schh," the Boogeyman says, "be a good boy now." The Boogeyman puts a hand on Dan. Dan does not like it. Dan knows it is wrong. But Dan cannot move. The Boogeyman grins. Dan knows what will happen now.
Uncle Sam hugs Dan the next morning. Uncle Sam also hugs Mommy and Daddy. Then Uncle Sam waves. Mommy looks at Dan, and Dan waves too. Uncle Sam leaves. Dan is still waving. With the other hand Dan squeezes the candy from Uncle Sam. Hard.
